Are cup ties and European matches included?
No. Every match counted here is a league fixture. Domestic cups and the continental competitions listed further up this page are outside the dataset, so a club’s record on this site describes its league campaigns only.
Why do goals per match differ so much between seasons?
Scoring moves with the era and the league. The highest-scoring season on record is Bundesliga 2026/27 at 3.89 goals a match (35 in 9), the lowest Ligue 1 2005/06 at 2.13. The gap between those two is wider than the gap between most neighbouring leagues in the same year.
