Season Overview

Under head coach Bruce Arena, the team finished the regular season with 59 points — the highest total in the league — securing the Supporters' Shield, awarded to the best regular-season club. David Beckham was sidelined for much of the year with a ruptured Achilles tendon, while Landon Donovan was on loan at Everton during the early months before returning to lead the team.
