San Jose Earthquakes — Major League Soccer 2010
MLS 2010 · Western Conference · Buck Shaw Stadium
Season Overview
The 2010 MLS campaign was the third season since the Earthquakes returned to Major League Soccer as an expansion side in 2008. The franchise — distinct from the original San Jose Earthquakes that had relocated to Houston in 2005 — competed in the Western Conference under returning head coach Frank Yallop, who had previously guided the original San Jose side to two MLS Cup titles.
Striker Chris Wondolowski emerged as the league's leading scorer during the regular season, sharing the Golden Boot with Edson Buddle. Wondolowski's breakthrough year began his run as one of the most prolific goalscorers in MLS history.
Final Standing
San Jose finished second in the Western Conference during the regular season with 50 points, qualifying for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The team was eliminated in the conference semi-finals by the Colorado Rapids, who went on to win the MLS Cup that year.
