Season Overview

2010 was Seattle Sounders FC's second season since joining Major League Soccer as an expansion club. Under returning head coach Sigi Schmid, the team consolidated its standing as one of the league's strongest attended clubs, with average crowds at Qwest Field that regularly exceeded those of established clubs in older markets.

Seattle finished fourth in the Western Conference during the regular season with 48 points and entered the MLS Cup Playoffs. They were eliminated in the conference semi-finals by the Los Angeles Galaxy. The team retained the U.S. Open Cup, defeating the Columbus Crew in the final — a second consecutive open-cup title.
