Career Overview

Robinho rose through the youth ranks at Santos, the same club that had produced Pelé four decades earlier. He made his senior debut in 2002 at the age of eighteen and was central to the Santos sides that won the Brazilian championship in 2002 and 2004 under coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

In 2005 Real Madrid signed him for a reported €24 million, where he spent three seasons winning two La Liga titles. In 2008 he transferred to Manchester City for a then-British record fee of £32.5 million following the club's takeover by Sheikh Mansour, becoming the first major signing of City's new ownership era.

After spells at Santos (on loan) and Milan — where he won Serie A in 2010–11 — Robinho continued his career in China, Turkey, and Brazil. He retired from competitive football in 2020.

The record spans 16 years, from 2005 to 2020, across 7 clubs, with 6 moves between them. The longest single spell was at Brazil, 12 recorded seasons from 2005 to 2018, and the average club spell runs to 2.3 seasons.

International football accounts for a further 12 seasons with Brazil, running alongside the club years rather than after them — which is why the dates in the table overlap.

Spells are listed by the seasons in which the player appears in the provider’s squad records. Where two clubs overlap in the same year the player moved mid-season, and both are shown rather than one being chosen.

Read against this site’s own league archive: AC Milan did not finish top of the league in any season of his 2011–2013 spell; Manchester City did not finish top of the league in any season of his 2008–2009 spell; Real Madrid won the title in 2007/08 during his 2006–2007 spell.

Honours

16 titles are recorded, alongside 11 runner-up or other placed finishes. Both lists come from the same squad records as the career table above, so a competition the player was registered for but did not play in can still appear.

Frequently asked

Which clubs did Robinho play for?

The record lists 8 senior teams: Başakşehir, Brazil, Sivasspor, Atletico-MG, Santos, AC Milan, Manchester City, Real Madrid.

Over what period is Robinho’s career recorded here?

From 2005 to 2020. Coverage begins where the data provider’s own records begin, so a career that started earlier may show fewer early seasons than it had.

Which club did Robinho spend longest at?

Brazil — 12 recorded seasons, from 2005 to 2018. The column counts seasons in which he appears in that club’s squad, not appearances, so half a season on loan still counts once.

What has Robinho won?

16 titles are recorded, the most frequent being Serie A.

Did Robinho appear for a national side?

Yes — Brazil is listed alongside the clubs, covering 2005 to 2018, because international spells sit in the same squad records.
