International — Netherlands

Van Persie made his Netherlands debut in 2005 and went on to become the country's all-time top goalscorer with 50 international goals — a record he set in 2017. He was a member of the Dutch squad that reached the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, losing to Spain after extra time. His diving header against Spain in the 2014 World Cup opener — sometimes called "the Flying Dutchman goal" — remains one of the most-replayed moments of that tournament.

Career Overview

Van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004 from Feyenoord and developed under Arsène Wenger across eight seasons in London, becoming captain in 2011. His exceptional 2011–12 season — when he won the FWA Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Golden Boot with 30 goals — preceded a controversial summer move to Manchester United for £24 million. In his first season at Old Trafford he scored 30 goals across all competitions and won his only Premier League title, retaining the Golden Boot.

Two seasons in Turkey at Fenerbahçe and a return spell at Feyenoord closed out his playing career, with retirement coming in 2019.
